gadget mural
Explore the process of creating a vibrant and captivating Bauhaus-inspired mural within Gadget's head office in Chinatown. The aim was to introduce a focal point to the predominantly white and minimalist space, infusing it with colour, energy, and a nod to the rich history of design.

Gadget’s head office was designed with a clean and minimalist directive, which allowed for an uncluttered look with lots of light and room for versatility. However, the predominantly white space lacked a focal point, and there was a desire to inject colour and personality into the environment. Gadget decided to commission a mural that would transform one of the main walls, bringing visual interest and vibrancy to the office.
To create a dynamic and visually appealing mural, I worked with Gadget's design team to narrow down a concept. They wanted to maintain the boldness and clean lines of the office without it being too stark. So, we turned to the iconic principles of the Bauhaus movement. Bauhaus emphasized the fusion of art, craft, and technology. We saw this as a perfect fit for Gadget’s tech-focused identity and their desire to add a touch of boldness to the office.

I developed several concept sketches that would complement the office space and reflect Gadget’s vision for the mural. The chosen design incorporated geometric shapes, bold colours, and clean lines—all characteristic elements of the Bauhaus movement. Essentially, we wanted to create an impactful visual representation of Gadget’s innovation and creativity. Here’s a preliminary mockup of the design we settled on:

Once the design was finalized, I began the process of transforming the white wall into a captivating mural. I superimposed the chosen design onto a scale digital illustration of the wall, then used that as a guide to map out the principal elements on the wall. I used a combination of 25 paint colours, which were custom mixed to create a palette of eclectic analogous gradients.
The mural slowly came to life, its vibrant hues resonating with the surrounding space and complementing the minimalist aesthetic. The final result was a stunning representation of Bauhaus design principles, seamlessly juxtaposed with the office environment. Here’s a time-lapse showing the entire painting process:
The addition of the Bauhaus-inspired mural had an immediate and dramatic impact on Gadget’s HQ. The once minimalistic space now boasts a vibrant and engaging focal point that sparks conversations and invigorates the workplace. I hope it reminds viewers of Gadget’s core values: creativity, innovation, and design.
